Electromagnetic Characteristic Analysis and Fault-Tolerant Control of Interturn Short-Circuits in SRM Drive System

The interturn short-circuit (ITSC) fault of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) can worsen the torque ripple and noise problems. And the ITSC fault will expand, leading to winding damage. To enhance the reliability and performance of SRM with the ITSC fault, this paper proposes an FTC method based on MPC. Based on finite element analysis (FEA), obtain the electromagnetic characteristics and performance of SRM with the ITSC fault. Implement fault-tolerant control (FTC) in two steps. The first step is to modify the MPC prediction model based on the FEA simulation results, with the aim of suppressing torque ripple and short-circuit current. The second step is to compensate for the phase current part of the cost function, with the aim of further suppressing short-circuit current. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
