Application of FPGA in Power Electronics: State-of-the-Art, Challenges, and Future
This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent advancements in FPGA-based power electronics converters. The increasing demand for high-efficiency, high-power density converters has led to the exploration of novel strategies and their implementation on FPGA platforms. The paper discusses the advantages and limitations of techniques where FPGA played as the control platform in design implementations, highlighting their suitability for specific applications. Additionally, it explores the use of advanced FPGA features, such as digital clock managers (DCMs), delay-locked loops (DLLs), and phase-locked loops (PLLs), to achieve high-resolution and high-frequency PWM generation. The paper also delves into the application of artificial intelligence, particularly neural networks, to optimize and enhance the performance of FPGA-based controllers. The current challenges and future research directions in this rapidly evolving field will also be presented.
