A High-Voltage Gain Bidirectional DC-DC Converter for Battery Storage Applications

This research describes a bidirectional dc-dc power converter with a wide conversion ratio and non-isolated structure. The proposed converter has a quadratic relationship in the voltage gain for both configurations (boost and buck). The advantage of this topology is that a high conversion ratio is achieved with a low number of components, which is suitable for battery energy transfer in electric vehicles. It consists of two stages with a non-series power transfer between them, improving the power efficiency. On the other hand, the converter has a common ground and non-pulsating input-output current. Analysis and design expressions are developed. Experimental verification is provided for a 250 W, 48/220 V laboratory prototype.
