Numerical Electromagnetic Field Analysis for Omni-directional Wireless Power Transfer using Dogleg-shaped Eight-Parallel Coil

In this study, numerical electromagnetic field analysis was performed for the Octagonal star prism coil and Dogleg-shaped eight-parallel coil, which was proposed as suitable coil geometries on the power transmission side for omni-directional contactless power transfer. For the coil on the power receiving side, a square single-winding coil was used, assuming a thin terminal such as a mobile device. The performance was evaluated using evaluation indices such as the theoretical maximum available efficiency, which is the maximum efficiency when the optimal load is connected to the receiving side. Numerical analysis was performed using EMPro, a three-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis software from Keysight. Using a Python script, transfer and receiving coils were modeled for numerical analysis. The angle between transfer and receiving coils was varied from 0 °to 90 °in 10 °increments, and the characteristics of the distance variation were investigated.
