Comparison of Control Typologies for Active Horizontal Vibration Control
This paper describes three types of active horizontal vibration control (AHVC) architectures for active control of the horizontal mode of vibrations on electric machine assembly. The vibration sensors are mounted on the motor body to provide feedback signals corresponding to horizontal vibrations and a vibration controller is designed to operate on these feedback signals to provide a feedforward compensation reference called reactive torque. The reactive torque is then added to the torque reference of the power converter to produce additional counter-reactive forces in the air-gap of the machine which are acting in the opposite direction to the horizontal vibrations machine which leads to suppression of machine vibrations. Different types of control architectures to generate the reactive torque at a particular phase and frequency are analyzed and the merits and demerits of all types of controllers have been validated through laboratory measurements under different unbalance conditions of rotor mass.
