Supertwisted Synergetic Control for AC-DC Power Converter of G2V-V2G Capable Onboard Electric Vehicle Charger
The efficient interaction of an electric vehicle (EV) with the power grid involves efficient and robust control of its bidirectional battery charger. For this purpose, we propose a supertwisted synergetic (ST-syn) based hybrid nonlinear controller for a single-phase full-bridge AC-DC power converter in a bidirectional onboard EV charger. Using MATLAB/Simulink ODE-45 environment, we validated the proposed controller for both grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) modes by ensuring a) AC side unitary power factor and b) DC bus voltage regulation. We proved the asymptotic stability of the entire system using the Lyapunov stability criterion and evaluated the system’s robustness amid the change in load current. We also demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed controller by comparing it with state-of-the-art Lyapunov redesign, backstepping, integral backstepping sliding mode, and supertwisting sliding mode controllers. Our results show the superior performance of the designed ST-syn controller as, compared with the supertwisting sliding mode controller, it reduces the rise time to 44.26%, steady-state error to 98.13%, and settling time to 76.97%. Moreover, controller hardware-in-loop (C-HIL) experiments were also conducted to demonstrate the real-time validation of the proposed controller.
