A Novel Decoupling Control Approach for a Triple Three – Phase Synchronous Reluctance Motor Drive System
Modern industry, manufacturing, electrification, and automation rely on adjustable speed motor drives. Therefore, studies of more efficient and cost-effective motor drive systems become prevalent. While permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) offer a nice balance of efficiency and power density, synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM), are both environmentally and economically more promising as they don’t rely on rare-earth magnets. The demand for highly rated power motors is rising, such as in multi-megawatt electrified propulsion systems, pumps and compressors. This can be achieved by multi-phase motors, especially the multi three-phase motors for the advantages of scalability and modularity of operations. Operation of SynRM drive systems requires advanced control techniques because of the inherent nonlinearity of the dynamic model and cross coupling of magnetic fields between the group of winding sets. A new decoupling control design for a triple three-phase SynRM (TTP–SynRM) is presented based on a decoupled reference frame, which is applied to a nonlinear dynamic model of TTP–SynRM modeled in the natural triple three-phase variables.
