Proposal of Virtual Indirect Modulation for the Single-Phase Matrix Converter Toward Realizing the Universal Direct Converter
Power electronics is a technology that uses semiconductors to convert power efficiently to the desired form and is considered essential for achieving energy-saving objectives. Generally, power converters must be designed for each type of power supply (DC, single-phase AC, three-phase AC), and different control functions are required for each type. This paper proposes a novel control method for matrix converters, which enables efficient power conversion across different power supplies. By simply adjusting input/output commands and voltage utilization ratios, the same modulation method can be applied to achieve three types of power conversions: three-phase AC to three-phase AC, single-phase AC to three-phase AC, and DC to three-phase AC. The paper specifically focuses on the scenario where electric power is supplied from a single-phase voltage source to the load. It includes compensation for the input capacitor voltage by incorporating feedback terms into the X functions, which represent input current commands.
