Reliable Dual Vector Control with Stator Flux Orientation for Fault Mitigation and Reconfiguration of DFIM in Clean Naval Propulsion

This paper presents a reliable dual-vector control strategy with stator flux orientation (DVCSFO) for a Doubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM), developed by EN MOTEURS for clean naval propulsion. The approach focuses on mitigating current sensor faults and enabling control reconfiguration to ensure continuous operation, even in degraded mode. The study assesses the impact of current sensor faults on system performance, introducing a fault-tolerant control strategy to maintain operation. Relative sensitivity coefficients are developed to evaluate the system’s robustness. The DFIM is an eco-friendly, high-voltage design without permanent magnets, featuring balanced power distribution between the stator and rotor. Co-simulation results using Matlab/Simulink and PLECS demonstrate the system’s ability to operate in degraded mode after DVCSFO reconfiguration, ensuring resilience despite sensor faults. This work offers a viable solution for sustaining performance in degraded conditions, validating the DFIM for clean naval propulsion applications.
