Medium Voltage Three-Phase Interleaved Three-Level Bidirectional DC-DC Battery Energy Storage Converter
Wind energy is a clean, renewable source that is becoming increasingly important in the global energy structure. Combining energy storage with individual wind turbines can improve the overall performance of wind power systems and is suitable for reducing the volatility of wind turbines, improving controllability and inertia levels. This paper designs a medium-voltage three-phase interleaved three-level bidirectional DC-DC energy storage converter suitable for wind turbines. This converter establishes the circuit equivalent model under both charging and discharging modes, namely buck mode and boost mode, and analyzes the topology with design parameters. The function of this bidirectional DC-DC converter was modeled and simulated in Matlab/Simulink, and the prototype was tested and verified at the end. It can be concluded that the ripple current can be reduced to 1/3 through this three-phase interleaved structure, and the Max. charging efficiency of 97.58% and Max. discharging efficiency of 98.62% can be achieved.
