Fine analysis of coal reservoir characteristics in the Zhalainuoer Coalfield

The Zhalainuoer Coalfield has abundant coal and coalbed methane resources. In order to reveal the basic information of the main coal seams in the Yimin Formation, the ash yield, volatile matter, moisture, maceral, and minerals in the coal were analyzed based on proximate analysis, microscopic observation, field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy spectrum X-ray (SEM-EDX) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results show that the moisture content in coal is relatively low, ranging from 6.38% to 11.74%, with an ash yield of 3.51%-9.64%, a volatile yield of 27.12%-44.54%, and a fixed carbon content of 39.69%-59.56%, belonging to medium total moisture, ultra-low ash yield and medium-high volatile yield coal. The Ro of coal samples from Yimin Formation is 0.42%-0.45%, belonging to lignite. The huminite content of coal in is the highest, followed by inertinite and liptinite. The inorganic minerals in coal reservoirs are mainly siliceous quartz, clay kaolinite, and carbonate calcite, among which quartz is the most developed, with most samples containing more than 5%. The research results provide a basis for efficient utilization of coal resources and exploration and development of coalbed methane in the Zhalainuoer Coalfield.

The Ro of coal samples from Yimin Formation is 0.42%-0.45%, belonging to lignite. The huminite content of coal in is the highest, followed by inertinite and liptinite.
