THE IMPLEMENTATION OF “SEKOLAH MENGAJI” MOVEMENT TO FOSTER ISLAMIC CHARACTER IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

School is a formal institution that is recognized as being able to instill character in students. If a movement is carried out at school continuously, it will develop good habits. It is not enough to obtain Islamic character only in Islamic religious education subjects which in their implementation are deemed unable to cover all aspects, due to the limited number of lesson hours in state schools. The emergence of a gap that state schools are unable to enable their students to recite the Koran well has led the Lumajang regional government to issue regulations regarding the Qur’an recitation school movement which must exist in elementary, middle and high school environments. This movement aims to form a generation that has an Islamic character and practices qur’anic values. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach. With data research methods using interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research show that with the Qur’an School Movement implemented at SDN Bodang 01, students can get more additional hours of Koran to study the Qur’an, memorize and write the Qur’an, apart from that this movement can involve stakeholders, namely Ustads who live in the school area and this movement raise students' awareness of the practice of the values of the Qur’an.
