Ilex cornuta: An Overview of Chemical Constituents and Pharmacological Activities
Abstract: Ilex cornuta Lindl. et Paxt. is widely distributed and has a long history of medication in China. It is rich in pentacyclic triterpenoids. In addition, flavonoids, alkaloids, and other constituents exist in I. cornuta. It possesses a wide variety of pharmacological activities, such as cardiac muscle cell protection, along with cytotoxic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, and anti-fertility activities, indicating it has a broad medicinal prospect. In this paper, through a comprehensive investigation of the original literature, the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of I. cornuta were classified and summarized so as to clarify the research status of the plant and provide a reference for its further development and utilization.
