Study on the field emission characteristics of laser induced graphene carbon fiber composite

This paper introduces a rapid method for preparing three-dimensional graphene carbon fiber composites, aiming to overcome the limitations of complex and time-consuming traditional preparation processes that affect field emission performance. The method utilizes laser direct writing technology, ablating polyimide films with a carbon dioxide laser to create 3D graphene carbon fiber composites. The experiment optimized laser power (4.8 W to 10.8 W) and varied polyimide substrate thicknesses (0.05 mm to 0.15 mm) to study the relationship between laser-induced power and material morphology, as well as field emission performance. Results showed that the composite material prepared at 7.2 W laser power achieved an ultra-low turn-on field of 0.272 V/μm at a field emission current density of 10 μA/cm2, with a high field enhancement factor of 14391. The experiment confirms that the 3D graphene carbon fiber composites exhibit excellent field emission properties and, due to their mass production capability, low cost, and easy patternability, offer broad application prospects for vacuum microelectronic devices.
