Studies on Reading Experiences of Artificial Intelligence Literature: Focusing on Death of an Author

This study investigates the literary features unique to Ai-generated fiction, Death of an Author, focusing on the narrative structure and readers' emotional responses. Using post-classical narratology as its theoretical foundation, the study explores the interaction between readers and the text, emphasizing the detective fiction genre as a lens to examine reader engagement with AT-authored texts. By analyzing Death of an Author, the study probes whether readers can have comparable literary experiences with Ai-generated texts as they do with human-authored ones. While traditional detective fiction invites readers into an implicit ‘fair play’ agreement, AI fiction often confronts readers with external considerations such as preconceived notions about Al's capabilities and authorship as well as texts that reminds them of reality. Death of an Author exemplifies this dynamic by adhering to classic detective fiction tropes while incorporating elements that remind readers of Al’s involvement in its creation. Through this analysis, the study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the narrative potential of AI literature and its implications for future coexistence with human-authored texts, offering insights into evolving definitions of creativity and literary value in the era of artificial intelligence.
