A Study on Migration and Cultural Change in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age: Focusing on the Hoseo Region
This paper was written for the purpose of a academic review of migration research from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age in Hoseo region. To this end, we looked at the basic concepts of population movement, migration theory and methodology, and case studies. The most noteworthy aspects of migration archaeological research are the factors that cause the original residence to leave and the factors that lead to the destination, and both factors are the combination of various livelihood economic and socio-political factors. Usually, migration begins with collecting information on potential migration destinations, followed by careful planning such as forming a network with indigenous people through marriage, barter, gift giving, etc. In addition, the unit, size, and travel distance of migration are closely related to migration factors, and the environmental and social conditions of the migration site have a profound effect on the settlement process and cultural transformation of migrants. Next, the research on migration from the Bronze Age to the early Iron Age and the latest trends were reviewed. Finally, for more specific and empirical migration archaeological research, it was emphasized that the development, case analysis, and archaeological explanation of migration theory and methodology should be carried out at the same time, avoiding the existing migration theory that lacks archaeological grounds, or the immigration view that relies excessively on literature records, and the uncritical re-acceptance and expansion of unverified migration theory.
