Evaluation of Breast Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and its Filling Effect on Breast MRI Image Quality, Riyadh, KSA.
Background: Breast cosmetic surgeries are among the most requested plastic surgeries in Saudi Arabia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most useful imaging modality for characterizing breast implants because of its high spatial resolution, and most of the used implants should not distort the MRI image. Aim: To evaluate the increased breast cosmetic surgery among Saudi women and assess the breast fillings’ effect on MRI images. Materials and Methods: Data of this retrospective study were taken from two main hospitals in Riyadh. This data was collected by surveying the medical records of these centers’ breast cosmetic procedures. Result: Increased breast cosmetic surgery cases, particularly among women at younger ages. The most requested breast procedures are breast reconstruction and augmentation. The main cause of breast saggy is weight loss and breastfeeding among female patients. Filling materials did not distort MRI images. Conclusion: MRI and mammography imaging are the main modalities in case of breast cancer suspected after a breast implant procedure. However, Saudi hospitals use pure silicone and saline implant materials that do not distort MRI image quality and generally do not cause cancers in healthy breast tissues.
