Global Trends In Social Capital’s Role In Agricultural Innovation : A Bibliometric Analysis And Implications (2000-2024)
This paper examines the global research trends on social capital’s role in agricultural practices from 2000 to 2024, highlighting its growing significance in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability. Social capital, encompassing networks, trust, and collective norms, plays a crucial role in facilitating resource sharing and technology adoption, especially in regions with weak formal institutions. Despite extensive research, a comprehensive global analysis of social capital's role in agriculture has been lacking. Using bibliometric analysis, this study systematically analyzes publications from the Dimensions database, focusing on publication trends, key authors, and geographic contributions. The findings show an increasing academic focus on social capital’s impact on innovation adoption and sustainable farming practices, especially in Asia, North America, and Europe. However, regions like Africa and Latin America remain underrepresented. The study concludes that social capital is essential for fostering collective action and improving agricultural outcomes, with significant policy implications for enhancing rural development and sustainability.
