Metasurface Inspired Antenna for Wireless Charging of Medical Devices
This paper emphasizes the need for scaled down antennas integrated with metasurface maintaining a satisfactory gain and bandwidth to be used for wireless charging of medical devices. A metasurface integrated coplanar hexagonal shaped slotted antenna for the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) at frequency 2.4GHz is tested. The results indicate that the designed coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed antenna integrated with a 5×5 meta unit cell array of a dodecagon with a carved out square furnishes a maximum gain of 4.77dB and a bandwidth of 1.026GHz. The integration of the metasurface enhanced the properties of the antenna and increased the gain by 41.54%. Our findings suggest the need for the incorporation of a metasurface in the fabrication of a miniature antenna enabling it to be used for wireless power transfer.
