Optimum Design of Conformal Bandpass Frequency Selective Surface for X-Band RADAR Communications
This paper presents a novel X-band Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) employing an octagonal loop, rhombus and square loop resonator. The proposed dual-sided FSS serves as a spatial bandpass filter in the X-band spectrum (8 GHz – 12 GHz). The FSS reported in this paper is constructed on a conformal polyimide substrate and hence it offers flexibility in conforming to irregular surfaces while maintaining optimal performance. The design optimization is achieved through the innovative application of the Firefly algorithm, ensuring superior efficiency and selectivity within the desired frequency range. The utilization of octagonal loop and rhombus resonators contributes to the compactness (5.75×5.75 mm) and transmission efficiency (above 70%) of the FSS design, allowing robust functionality in diverse applications such as RADAR systems, communication devices, and sensing technologies. The bandwidth of operation of the FSS is controlled using the square loop resonator printed on the opposite side of the FSS. This abstract encapsulates the key features and potential applications of the proposed X-band FSS, presenting it as a promising solution for enhancing signal filtering and manipulation in X-band frequency ranges.
