Fuzzy Logic Based Model Predictive Current Control for Improved Power Quality in Microgrid Clusters
Forming microgrid (MG) clusters in an enclosed area is an emerging solution to enrich the benefits of MGs. However, the integration of power electronic devices, renewable energy sources, and nonlinear electronic loads creates power quality issues in them. So, proper control of power converters became an important challenge in MGs. With this motivation, this paper proposes a new inverter control method named “fuzzy logic-based model predictive current control (FL-MPCC)”. This proposed method consists of two parts viz., (i) fuzzy logic-based synchronous reference frame theory (SRFT) for producing the reference currents and (ii) model predictive current control (MPCC) for producing the inverter switching pulses by using the reference currents produced by SRFT. The feedback mechanism employed in this proposed control method enables the MG to effectively handle disruptions and uncertainties. The test system for simulation studies is realized in MATLAB/Simulink 2022a software. The fruitfulness of the suggested method is analyzed over different power quality indices for example sag/swell, frequency response, and total harmonic distortion. From these comparative results, it is observed that the proposed FL-MPCC shows superior performance than the conventional MPCCs.
