Performance Analysis of THz and VLC Systems Under the Impact of Weather and Human Blockages
Terahertz (THz) communication and visible light communication (VLC) are promising technologies for rapidly de-veloping next-generation wireless communication systems. This work focuses on THz and VLC performance analysis under two challenging scenarios: atmospheric weather impact and human blockages. Under these two challenges, we thoroughly compare the sum rate with multiple access techniques using orthogonal multiple access (OMA), power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (PD-NOMA), and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) and analyzing the impact of misalignment errors in THz and semi-angles in VLC. By examining the strengths and weaknesses of both technologies, the simulation results show how different weather impacts and human blockages affect the sum rate per-formance of the THz and VLC systems. Also, it shows that THz outperforms VLC in both challenging scenarios. Consequently, the proposed comparison study will be useful to system designers in an outdoor communication system based on THz and VLC.
