Low-Power Hamming Distance Detection Circuit Using Cross-Coupled Electronic Neuron

Pattern-matching efficiency is required to process vast amounts of real-time data in today's rapidly increasing information volume. In previous work, we proposed an associative memory that can perform pattern matching at high speed. However, the Hamming distance detection circuit, a component of the previous study, has a problem with high power consumption due to through-current in the circuit. In this paper, we propose a Hamming distance detection circuit that solves the through-current problem of conventional circuits by using cross-coupled electronic neuron. The power consumption of the proposed circuit is less than 1/6 of that of a conventional Hamming distance detection circuit. The effectiveness of this circuit was verified by HSPICE simulations, which showed the potential for improving the efficiency of associative memory.
