Millimeter-Wave Wide Angle Beam Scanning Composite Right/Left-Handed Leaky- Wave Antenna
Although leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) have excel-lent radiation properties, many suffer radiation in the broadside direction. This limitation restricts the beam scanning of LWAs, particularly uniform LWAs, in the forward direction only. A composite right/left-handed (CRLH) LWA for millimeter wave application is discussed in this paper. The unit cell of the antenna consists of two patches with a gap between them, one with a slot in the middle and another shorted to the ground using four vias. The simulation results confirm that the radiating beam of the antenna scans continuously from -63° to +70° as frequency sweeps from 31.5 to 60 GHz.
