A Sub Tera-Hz Antenna for 5G Applications
This paper presents a novel microstrip antenna for millimeter-wave applications. The antenna is designed with an octagonal annular ring structure with defected ground surface (DGS). The antenna is resonating at 43.5 GHz with a reflection coefficient of less than -25 dB. The antenna size is below 1.2 x 1.2 × 1.6 cm, which makes it suitable for integration in small electronic devices. The antenna is fed by a coaxial probe that is specifically designed at 43.5GHz to match the 50 impedance. The simulated radiation efficiency of the antenna is 66%, and the directivity is 6.5 dBi. The operational bandwidth of the antenna is between 42.4 GHz and 44.8 GHz, with a VSWR of 1.08. The proposed antenna design is compact, efficient, and has a wide bandwidth. It is suitable for a variety of millimeter wave applications, such as 5G communication, radar, and imaging.
