Wat weten wij over seksuele recidive in Vlaanderen?

What do we know about sexual recidivism in Flanders? A study of a treated cohort of sex offenders This study describes sexual recidivism in adult male sex offenders after treatment in a specialized residential center in Flanders. The study utilized new convictions for a sexual offense as recorded in the Central Criminal Register. These figures are unique because research into this has never been done before in Flanders. Although a reduction in both the number and severity of sexual recidivism was observed, further research with a control group is required to determine whether this reduction is due to treatment or can be attributed to other factors. Current research hopefully contributes to a more nuanced view of sex offending because the low recidivism rates illustrate that not every sex offender relapses.
