Undue influence and elder abuse: An exploratory study Elder abuse has far-reaching consequences for the elderly, bystanders, caregivers and society. Undue influence may play an important role in contributing to the incidence and persistence of elder abuse cases. To date, undue influence has not been taken into consideration in the study of elder abuse in the Netherlands. The authors sought to gain an exploratory understanding of undue influence in situations of elder abuse by conducting a file research and conversing with field experts in focus groups. The study sheds light on the definition and manifestations of undue influence in elder abuse cases.
