Aspirin for Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis and Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Agents Should Be Administered at Least 2 Hours Apart
Aspirin has become a common postoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) chemoprophylaxis following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). [1] Aspirin has been shown to be a safe and effective chemoprophylaxis for the prevention of VTE after TJA. [2,3] In addition, many studies report an increased safety profile with similar efficacy compared with alternative VTE prophylaxis. [3,4] Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are often utilized as part of a multimodal pain management strategy following TJA.
