A Study on Automated Functional Safety Testing Method Based on HIL

With the rapid development of automotive electronic technology, ensuring the reliability and safety of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in various complex environments has become a key task. Particularly within the framework of the ISO 26262 standard, fault injection as an effective testing method holds important significance for verifying the behavior of automotive electronic systems under fault conditions. This paper discusses the automated testing process based on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and evaluates the effectiveness of fault injection testing by combining ECU-TEST and CANoe tools. By defining various bus communication fault types in CANoe, including message data tampering, message delay, and message dropping, this paper achieves a comprehensive evaluation of the ECU's response capability in abnormal situations. In ECU-TEST, the automation of calling fault test cases and executing test steps greatly simplifies the testing process and enhances testing efficiency. The results indicate that the combined use of ECU-TEST and CANoe not only enhances the accuracy of fault injection testing but also provides strong support for the safety verification of automotive electronic systems compliant with the ISO 26262 standard. This research provides new insights and methods for the testing and validation of future automotive electronic systems.
