Design and Optimization of High-Speed Five-Phase Fault-Tolerant Permanent Magnet Motor for Aerospace Applications

Multi-phase motors are frequently applied in aerospace and other fields requiring high reliability, high torque density, and low torque ripple. In this paper, a high-speed five-phase fault-tolerant permanent magnet (HFFPM) motor design scheme is proposed. Through the slot-pole combination optimization selection, the double-layer fractional slot concentrated winding structure, the surface permanent magnet rotor structure, the rotor magnet centrifugal structure, and other designs, the HFFPM motor has lightweight and high reliability performance. By the rotor magnet centrifugal structure, the back electromotive force, the cogging torque, and the flux density of the HFFPM motor are optimized. Then the electromagnetic performance of the HFFPM motor under the rated working condition is simulated. The results show that the motor designed in this paper can still output stable torque under the condition of high-speed operation, and has good fault tolerance performance. Finally, according to the simulation results, the HFFPM motor prototype is made, and its rotation speed characteristics and EMF are tested to verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis.
