Weight Reduction of Lower Back Support Exoskeleton: Muscle Suit

Lower back pain (LBP) is a widespread problem affecting manual workers. The Muscle Suit series has been developing as a technological approach to tackle LBP. While the Muscle Suit series has become widely available, with total shipments exceeding 30,000 units, there are many requests for improvements in size, weight and ease of use. In 2023, we launched the mass-produced model “Exo-Power”, making the product more compact and easier to walk compared to the former model “Every”. Whereas, the product remains at approximately 4.3kg, and further weight reduction is required. This study presents the development of a new Muscle Suit with a target weight of 3 kg by modifying the maximum assistive force.
