Verilog HDL-based implementation of UART design
UART communication protocol is one of the key topics of research today. Researchers have found that the use of various functional modules based on UART modules already exists in the market. However, problems such as high cost and complex circuitry still exist. A universal and simple UART module is the basis of various functions, for which there is a lack of simple design and clear explanation in the market. Therefore, in this study, a general-purpose UART module is designed using Verilog HDL hardware description language. The research methodology of this paper is as follows: by understanding the UART principle, specific transmitter and receiver modules are designed and finally integrated into the top-level module. After the design is completed and verified by simulation, this module achieves stable operation, normal data transmitting and receiving, and strong anti-interference. As a UART with a simple and easy-to-understand design, understanding this research helps to lay the foundation for more and more complex UART modules, and at the same time, if this module is directly used as an IP core, it can also ensure a low failure rate, a small circuit area, and a low cost.
