Room temperature magnetodielectric studies of Sr3−xLaxCo2Fe24O41 hexaferrite

In the present work, La substituted Sr3−xLaxCo2Fe24O41(x = 0.0 and 0.20) hexaferrites were prepared by solid-state reaction method and their magnetodielectric (MD) properties were investigated at room temperature. Z-type hexaferrite was formed as a major phase with some minor impurity phases of M and W phases. FESEM micrographs showed densely packed hexagonal platelet-like structures with smaller grain size (∼1.74 μm) with La substitution. Both saturation magnetization (Ms) and coercivity (Hc) increase with La content. The MD effect was more prominent at low frequencies for both the SrZ and La0.20 samples. The highest MD (∼4.5%) was observed at low frequency and 1000 Oe magnetic field for the La0.20 sample. The MD effect in La substituted Z-type hexaferrites suggests their potential for applications in tunable microwave devices, magnetic sensors, and data storage devices.
