High Efficiency Power Amplifier using Harmonic Suppression based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide

This paper introduces a new method for improving efficiency of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) power amplifier (PA). The SIW technology has benefits of good quality factor, compact size, and easy integration with other planar components. The application of the SIW has been observed in either impedance matching or harmonic suppression. In this work, the efficiency is enhanced by implementing both the impedance matching and the harmonic suppression on the SIW technology. The proposed SIW PA has maximum power added efficiency (PAE) of 60.46% and output power <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$P_{\mathrm{o}\text{ut}}$</tex> of 36.94 dBm at 6 GHz.

Abstract

The application of the SIW has been observed in either impedance matching or harmonic suppression. In this work, the efficiency is enhanced by implementing both the impedance matching and the harmonic suppression on the SIW technology.
