An Useful Approach for Multiple Cloud Platforms Deployment

The trend in cloud computing is the hybrid approach, combining private and public clouds. However, establishing IT services this way is challenging due to proprietary APIs and toolkits from significant vendors. Deploying applications across different platforms is difficult and time-consuming, discouraging hybrid adoption and hindering cloud integration. The second issue to address is the repeated deployment of IT systems across various cloud frameworks. Numerous software firms create a central product and implement it repeatedly across various client systems. Cloud providers can model IT system architecture using template files to facilitate this, allowing for repeated deployments. However, different cloud platforms use different template file syntaxes, necessitating the conversion of template files to match the syntax of each new system. In this paper, we propose a method to address the previously mentioned challenges. Our contributions are threefold. First, we enhance the portability and interoperability of cloud frameworks by addressing the challenges of machine creation and deployment across different cloud environments. Second, we introduce a service template for deploying software services on various cloud platforms. This syntax allows users to create services, upload them to the system, and deploy them on the desired cloud. Finally, we develop a tool that uses this template for deployment on several major cloud frameworks. Our solution is illustrated through the development of a web-based system, which employs a template to generate multiple virtual machines and sets them up using a predefined script. The system was rigorously tested on five cloud platforms: Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and a locally deployed OpenStack. We deployed services using Puppet on each platform, such as Apache Tomcat and Apache Hadoop. Our results highlight the capability to simultaneously establish applications or services across diverse cloud platforms.
