Joint Cognitive Radar and Communication Systems
A joint cognitive radar and communication (JRAC) system is proposed with a mono-static radar sensing free channels under the existence of on-off transmissions. The system aims to enhance the radar performance by properly adjusting the on-off channel gain threshold while guaranteeing the communication throughput. The results show a significant trade-off between the radar's mutual information (MI) and the communication throughput, indicating that as long as the communication channel remains within the allowable threshold value, the communication data rate always achieves the threshold required to optimize radar detection performance. This research contributes to ongoing efforts in cognitive radio networks by providing a feasible solution for simultaneous radar and communication operations, thus enhancing overall spectrum efficiency.
