1936, o ano em que o Olimpismo foi sequestrado pelo totalitarismo

Our contribution aims to present aspects that attest the hijacking of Olympism by Nazism in the context of the Berlin Olympic Games. To do this, we will take as a basis articles published in the German press, as well as the so-called Presseanweisungen (“press instructions”), daily bulletins issued by the Ministry of Popular Education and Propaganda as pre-censorship instruments. We will also present a brief reflection on the Olympic Movement and the revival and updating of the Olympic ideal of Ancient Greece by Pierre de Coubertin, which allows us to glimpse its appropriation by a totalitarian regime that, contrary to Olympism, built a “showcase” of the “new Germany”, “a lover of peace” in times of preparation for war.
