HOSPITALIDADE E HOSTILIDADE NA MORTE

This article explores the relationships between hospitality, hostility, and death, highlighting how these dimensions manifest in moments of grief and funeral services. The theme arose from a personal experience involving perceptions of welcome and rejection by professionals during a funeral process. The objective is to analyze these interactions from the perspective of hospitality and mourning, emphasizing the social and emotional dynamics associated with death. The methodology used was a bibliographic review, with content analysis of articles, dissertations, and theses published over the last two decades, available on the Capes portal and Google Scholar. The qualitative approach allowed the identification of how the concepts of hospitality and hostility relate to the experience of grief and funeral services. The findings reinforce that, although hospitality may not alleviate the emotional impact of mourning, frequent manifestations of inhospitality often make the process even more challenging, with bureaucracy and interactions with healthcare and funeral professionals demonstrating no empathy, which can exacerbate the suffering of the bereaved. On the other hand, genuine practices of welcome have proven capable of providing dignity and comfort in moments of extreme vulnerability. It is concluded that the inclusion of hospitality practices in funeral services and grief support can humanize the process of death, promoting a less traumatic experience for those involved. The research reinforces the need to sensitize institutions and train professionals to develop more empathetic and respectful approaches.
