5.1 A GaN SLCG-Doherty-Continuum Power Amplifier Achieving >38% 6dB Back-Off Efficiency Over 1.35 to 7.6GHz
To maximize throughput, wireless standards often mandate channels with hundreds of MHz bandwidths (BWs) over multiple non-contiguous bands. In addition, as spectrally efficient complex modulations with high peak-to-average power ratios (PAPRs) are widely employed, the system dynamic range becomes critical. Moreover, to overcome path loss and enable spatial multiplexing, massive MIMO techniques with large-scale phased arrays are increasingly demanded for base stations and satellite communications. These requirements have posed tremendous challenges on the design of power amplifiers (PAs), including the need for large RF and signal bandwidths, high back-off efficiency, good linearity, and compact size.
