DIAGNÓSTICO DO SANEAMENTO BÁSICO E DAS DOENÇAS DE VEICULAÇÃO HÍDRICA DO BAIRRO NHAMAONHA, PROVÍNCIA DE MANICA, MOÇAMBIQUE

Mozambique is experiencing an accelerated process of urbanization, with an estimated annual growth rate of 3.5%. This rate of growth indicates that, in the coming decades, the number of urban residents in the country could more than double, representing a major challenge for urban infrastructure and services. The expansion of urban areas requires significant investment in housing, mobility, sanitation and drainage systems in order to guarantee quality of life and sustainability in the urban environment. The study aimed to diagnose the situation of basic sanitation and water-borne diseases in the Nhamaonha neighborhood. Exploratory research was carried out using a case study, with interviews with 79 residents and analysis of 15 wells in terms of physical parameters (Electrical Conductivity, Turbidity, pH and Ammonia), chemical parameters (Nitrate) and microbiological parameters (Thermotolerant Coliforms and Fecal Coliforms). It was found that 98.7% of the population does not have access to the public sewage system, and there are no records of water leaks near homes in 93.7% of cases. Electrical conductivity levels ranged from 1500-2000 µS/cm in specific wells, and pH was outside WHO standards in some cases. Thermotolerant coliform values were high in three of the wells analyzed. As for health, malaria records were highest between January and July, with averages of between 1000-1500 cases/month, while diarrheal diseases peaked between September and December, with up to 150 cases.
