EXCCCII-based high performance TIM/CM full-wave rectifier with explicit outputs

Abstract This research work focuses on the design of extra-X current controlled second-generation current conveyor (EXCCCII) based precise full-wave rectifier. The suggested design operates in trans-impedance-mode and current-mode. It consists of one active block, EXCCCII, one MOS device, and two resistors. The junction diodes existing within the active MOS device function as those of conventional diodes making them an excellent candidate for integration. The rectified voltage output is obtained from the low impedance terminal and the rectified current output is also obtained explicitly from the high-impedance terminal without use of any buffer. The operating frequency of the rectification is 10 MHz with a good linearity range of ± 0.1 mA. The rectification is validated by post-layout simulations using gpdk 0.18 μm technology process parameters with Cadence Virtuoso tool. Layout of the active device EXCCCII measures an area of 22.5 μm × 24.5 μm. The experimental verification of the circuit is also performed with commercial ICs and discrete components.
