An exploration of the 『Daehakzhangdo(大學章圖)』 -A basic review of the 『SaseozhangdoChanseok(四書章圖纂釋)』

In identifying the 『Daehakhangdo』 held in the Kyujanggak(奎章閣) Archives of Seoul National University, the 『SaseozhangdoChanseok(四書章圖纂釋) by Jeong, Bok-sim(程復心), which was used as the source text, is the only one among his works within which the author, publication year, and publication location are recorded. When he authored 『SaseozhangdoChanseok』, he used the ‘Twenty-Three Books on the Four Books(四書章圖二十三冊)’ which was later altered and republished as 『Saseozangdo 23types(四書章圖二十三終)』, containing errors of the subtitle and author. In this research, iconographical works related to Daehak are sequentially listed as follows: 『Daehakzhangdo』, 『Saseozangdo 23types(四書章圖二十三終)』, 「Daehakzhanggujungjengjipseokzhangdotongeuidaeseong(大學章句重訂輯釋章圖通義大成)」, 『SaseozhangdoChanseok』, and 「Daehakgumunzhangdochanseok(大學句問章圖纂釋)」. Among these, 『SaseozhangdoChanseok』 is categorized as a comprehensive iconography and a text and diagram of 『Daehak』. The 31 iconographies from 『Daehakzhangdo』 correspond to the 9 iconographies included in 「Saseozhangdoeungwalchongyo(四書章圖隱括總要)」 and the 23 iconographies included in 「Daehakgumunzhangdochanseok」. And when 『Daehakzhangdo』 was introduced for the first time in Goryeo, the description of 'Daehakzhangdo' in the first page of 『Daehakzhangdo』 corresponds to the 'Daehakdo(大學圖)' in 「Daehakzhanggujungjeongjipseokjangdotonguidaeseong」 and 「Daehakgumunjangdochanseok」. The basis for this chronological connection is the text and diagram in these works and the 『ZhungyongJujaHokmun(中庸朱子或問)』 woodblock print from JinjuMok(晋州牧) in 1371. The 『ZhungyongJujaHokmun』 used 『Saseozangdo 23types』 as its source text when it was twice printed as a woodblock edition. Thus, 『Daehakzhangdo』, corresponds to the 「Daehakzhangdo」 included in 『Saseozhangdo』, an early work by Jeong, Bok-shim, a Confucian scholar of the Yuan dynasty in China.
