Analysis of the detailed goals and indicators of the Sustainable Development Goal 4.0 of metropolitan local governments in Korea

In this study, we analyzed the goals, detailed goals and indicators of metropolitan local governments to implement the Sustainable Development Goal(SDG) 4.0 presented by the United Nations. As a result, it was found that metropolitan local governments set detailed goals and indicators to achieve quality education, which is the goal of SDGl 4.0, focusing mainly on lifelong education, sustainable development education, and infant and kindergarten education. The SDG 4.0 for metropolitan local governments faithfully reflects the United Nations' goal of ‘ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.’ However, in the pursuit of SDG 4.0, metropolitan local governments showed relatively little interest in professional education, higher education, and governance with local organizations in the region. In addition, there were differences in the implementation of SDG 4.0 by metropolitan local government. Megalopolis areas were very high in detailed goals and indicators compared to provincial areas. Metropolitan local governments need to further expand learning opportunities for local residents by developing and supplying customized educational content and programs for each life cycle so that local residents can receive education throughout their lives.
