Virtual Speed Control of Grid-forming Energy Storage for Frequency Support and Oscillation Suppression

The decoupling control of the primary frequency regulation characteristics and virtual damping characteristics of grid-forming energy storage is the key to realize the multi-objective comprehensive control of frequency support and oscillation suppression, which lays the foundation for the large-scale application of grid-forming energy storage in the new power system. In this paper, the coupling mechanism and parameter design contradiction between the primary frequency regulation parameters and the virtual damping parameters of grid-forming energy storage are mentioned. Secondly, the output characteristic model of the virtual synchronous generator was constructed, the mechanism of the virtual angular velocity, the virtual damping of the rotor and the stator impedance on the output power of the virtual synchronous generator was comprehensively analyzed, the frequency and power oscillation control parameters of the virtual synchronous generator were accurately positioned, and the multi-objective autonomous cooperative support control strategy of frequency and power oscillation of the grid-forming energy storage was proposed. Finally, a simulation system with a high proportion of new energy is built to verify the significant effect of the control strategy proposed in this paper on the frequency support and oscillation suppression of the power generation system.
