RELATION BETWEEN LINEAR DIMENSIONS OF SELLA TURCICA AND DIFFERENT VERTICAL GROWTH PATTERNS IN ADULTS USING CBCT
Introduction: The relationship between shape and morphology of sella turcica anddifferent vertical skeletal classes has been a focus of investigation since the late 19thcentury. By introducing Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to the orthodonticfield, studying such a relation became possible and accurate. Aim: The aim of thisstudy is to determine the relation between the linear dimensions of the sella turcica anddifferent vertical growth patterns in adults using CBCT. Patients and Methods: Conebeamcomputed tomographic images of 54 adults were acquired. They were groupedinto three groups of 18 each: Vertical growth pattern group, normal growth patterngroup and horizontal growth pattern group. The length, depth, and diameter of sellaturcica were measured in each group using Dolphin software program. In addition;Mimics Medical Software was used for accurate volumetric analysis of sella turcica. Results: Regarding Length (mm), Depth (mm), and Diameter (mm) of sella turcica, there was a statistically non-significant difference between the three groups. As forDiameter (mm); there was a statistically significant positive correlation with SN-MPin the High angle group. Regarding Volume, there was a statistically non-significantpositive correlation with SN-MP in all groups. Conclusion: The length, depth, diameterand volume of sella turcica showed no difference in all groups. There was a statisticallysignificant positive correlation between SN-MP angle with sella turcica diameter in theHigh angle individuals.
