Magneto-optical properties of magnetic–ENZ–magnetic multilayer with noncollinear orientation of magnetizations of layers

The transmission and reflection of electromagnetic waves from the magnetic–“epsilon-near-zero”–magnetic multilayer with a noncollinear orientation of the magnetizations of layers lying in the plane of the film is considered. The analytical approach is based on exact solutions of electromagnetic boundary problems. The characteristic matrix of the structure that determines the magneto-optical properties of the structure is calculated. The magneto-optical characteristics of this structure are shown to significantly depend on the angle between the magnetization vectors of layers and the thickness of the “epsilon-near-zero” (ENZ) interlayer. Both the magnitude and the character of these dependences are analyzed in relation to the angle of incidence and the polarization of the incident wave. Such an analysis makes it possible to optimize the magneto-optical properties of this structure. The presence of the ENZ interlayer in the magnetic–ENZ–magnetic multilayer leads to a dramatic difference in the way this structure interacts with p- and s-polarized electromagnetic waves. We examine the transmission of linearly (not only p- and s-waves) polarized electromagnetic waves through that structure and demonstrate that this difference may lead to a unique class of angular filters and polarizers.
