ZmEDD1 is involved in maize seed development by affecting RNA splicing of multiple mitochondrial genes

Genetic analysis indicates that edd1 is a single gene recessive mutant. Mapping analysis revealed that the mutated gene ZmEDD1 was located at Bin 1.08 on chromosome 1, and the ZmEDD1 protein was located in mitochondria and had the highest expression level in the ear. The mutation of ZmEDD1 affected the RNA splicing of 8 mitochondrial genes, including nad1. At the same time, the cristae structure of mitochondria was abnormal in the edd1 mutant.
