Characterization of corrosion and wear for magnesium-based metallic glass
The corrosion and wear behaviour of magnesium-based metallic glass (MgMG) was systematically investigated using a scanning Kelvin probe (SKP) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The open circuit potential (OCP) of the MgMG exposed to a 0.1 M NaCl solution for 40 hr was about −412 mV vs. SHE. The scratch-induced wear of the MgMG generated by AFM scratching was apparently higher at the higher set-point voltage because the higher applied load resulted in the removal of more materials from its surface.
