The Impact of Football: Cultural Integrationof Indian Men in Malta

This study explores the impact of football on the dynamics, cultural integration,and social interactions within the Indian community in Malta, focusing on their migrationexperiences. Through a literature review and deep qualitative phenomenological interviewswith five Indian male football players, the research contributes insights into migration,sports, and cultural integration. Utilising inductive thematic analysis, the study considersthe participants’ lived experiences, revealing that football significantly shapes thelives of the Indian community in Malta. Despite migration challenges, football acts as acatalyst for community cohesion, fostering identity, unity, and belonging. It serves as aplatform for social inclusion, bridging cultural gaps and facilitating interactions with othercommunities. The data-rich findings emphasise the transformative power of football inpromoting community development and integration among Indian migrants in Malta, bothon individual and societal levels.
