Beam-Wave Interaction Study of a Ka-Band Frequency-Doubling Gyroklystron Amplifier

This work examines the beam-wave interaction of a two-cavity, Ka-band frequency-doubling gyroklystron amplifier using nonlinear single-mode analysis. Findings indicate that the device, operating with an electron beam at 70 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{kV}$</tex> and 15 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{A}$</tex>, can generate 21.46 dB gain and 224 kW output power at 35 GHz. The amplifier achieves 21.34% efficiency. These findings demonstrate the viability of frequency-doubling gyroklystrons for high-power millimeter-wave applications.

Abstract

This work examines the beam-wave interaction of a two-cavity, Ka-band frequency-doubling gyroklystron amplifier using nonlinear single-mode analysis. Findings indicate that the device, operating with an electron beam at 70 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{kV}$</tex> and 15 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{A}$</tex>, can generate 21.46 dB gain and 224 kW output power at 35 GHz. The amplifier achieves 21.34% efficiency. These findings demonstrate the viability of frequency-doubling gyroklystrons for high-power millimeter-wave applications.
